This handmade, hand-painted linocut print is inspired by many adventures camping and hiking in Cascadia, with its basalt, sandstone and late-season snow.
On evenings like this, standing in the shadow of a great mountain under the cobalt sky, I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of the world.
Strathcona Glacier is a limited edition, hand-painted print and only 9 of these that will ever be made.
What is a hand-painted linocut print?
After making an initial drawing, I hand-carve a linoleum block. I then squeeze ink out onto my palette, roll it onto the block using a hard paint-roller tool, and then carefully press the paper down onto the block. After the ink layer dries (2 to 7 days), I carefully hand paint each one.
Each print is unique and there will be slight variations within the edition – that’s part of the charm of linocut printmaking. You can see the hand of the artist in every print.
